Bioengineered Breast: Concept, Technique, and Preliminary Results.

چکیده
UNLABELLED Breasts reconstructed with implants, following mastectomy, lack the soft-tissue envelope of natural breasts. Further implant-related complications such as implant visibility, rippling/wrinkling, and/or hollowing/depression of the skin that often appear in the vicinity of the upper pole may be attributed to soft-tissue deficits. To address these shortcomings, the authors have developed the "bioengineered breast" concept that uses a combination of biological matrix and/or autologous fat grafting at the upper pole to augment the soft-tissue volume of breasts at the second stage of a two-stage breast reconstruction procedure. Enhancing the soft-tissue cover not only supplements volume and shape but further alters how the recipient's host tissue responds to the foreign body implant. The authors have used the bioengineered breast concept in over 500 reconstructions, with good outcomes and low complication rates. CLINICAL QUESTION/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Therapeutic, V.

Detection of breast cancer using non-invasive X-ray diffraction technique of hair: A preliminary study
Background: An early diagnosis of breast cancer relates directly to an accurate treatment plan and strategy. Early detection of breast cancer before its development would be a significant reduction of morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this preliminary study is to investigate the sensitivity of Wide Angle X-ray diffraction (WAXRD) method on women hair samples of healthy and breast cancer...
متن کاملSuccessful implantation of physiologically functional bioengineered mouse internal anal sphincter.
We have previously developed bioengineered three-dimensional internal anal sphincter (IAS) rings from circular smooth muscle cells isolated from rabbit and human IAS. We provide proof of concept that bioengineered mouse IAS rings are neovascularized upon implantation into mice of the same strain and maintain concentric smooth muscle alignment, phenotype, and IAS functionality. Rings were bioeng...
متن کاملThe Proximal Medial Sural Nerve Biopsy Model: A Standardised and Reproducible Baseline Clinical Model for the Translational Evaluation of Bioengineered Nerve Guides
Autologous nerve transplantation (ANT) is the clinical gold standard for the reconstruction of peripheral nerve defects. A large number of bioengineered nerve guides have been tested under laboratory conditions as an alternative to the ANT. The step from experimental studies to the implementation of the device in the clinical setting is often substantial and the outcome is unpredictable. This i...
متن کاملThe Diagon/Gel Implant: A Preliminary Report of 894 Cases
The breast has always been perceived as the emblem of femininity. Desire of having an ideal breast form has been of interest for a long time. METHODS This preliminary article is a retrospective analysis of 894 cases of breast augmentation with Diagon/Gel breast implants covered with a micropolyurethane foam (Microthane). The surgical technique employed is a modified dual plane, which enables ...
متن کاملPreparation and preliminary studies of [64Cu]-antiMUC-1 for breast cancer targeting
PR81 is a monoclonal antibody that binds with high affinity to MUC1 that over expressed on breast tumors. PR81 is considered a suitable targeting molecule that was radiolabeled using Cu-64 for positron imaging studies. The monoclonal antibody was conjugated with DOTA moiety and after purification was evaluated for radiochemical purity, immunoreactivity, cell toxicity and structure integrity as ...
